Tip #2: Stomach Aches? Eat Artichokes.

Artichokes have been used for centuries to treat liver and stomach conditions. One of artichokes main biologically active chemicals cynarin, found in its leaves, has been shown to stimulate bile production. In one study, researchers gave artichoke leaf extract to 553 patients with digestive disorders.  At the end of the study 6 weeks later, 85 percent of patients experienced substantial relief from abdominal pain, constipation, and vomiting. In another study, artichoke leaf extract was given to patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). After 6 weeks, all patients’ symptoms were reduced by an average of 70 percent. At the end of the study, 98 percent of the patients rated artichoke leaf extract as better than or at least equal to previous therapies administered for their symptoms.
